Have you seen SHOT BRO – Confessions Of A Depressed Bullet?
Rob Mokoraka’s intimate and authentic solo show takes you on a seven-year journey from depression and attempted suicide to healing and self-discovery.
We were delighted to host Rob and his show at 3 special events in Northland last week; at Kaikohe, Kerikeri and Kaitaia.
Each evening was unique and included lots of laughter, discussion with our expert panel and audience interaction. All ages were present, including children, youth and adults, and we loved seeing how much the younger audience members enjoyed themselves.
Chatting with the parents afterwards, we all agreed it is important to provide age-appropriate information for children about mental health, rather than leave them to figure it out themselves.
At each location, people shared how moved they were by Rob’s performance. They were captivated by Rob’s portrayal of depression and openly shared how much they enjoyed the show.
In Kaikohe, six people stood up after the show and did a haka of thanks for Rob’s work. It was an incredible moment.
The Northland shows were clearly a resounding success and were enjoyed by all. By sharing his own journey, Rob reminded us there is hope and a way forwards one day at a time.
Rob is a true inspiration and we hope to work with him again soon.
Where can you watch Shot Bro?
Shot Bro receives great reviews and you can watch the documentary on Māori Television.
“Actor Rob Mokaraka journeys around Aotearoa, telling the story of his attempted suicide-by-cop in his one man play. Funny, dark, and real, his mission is to bring aroha to communities and whānau who have been affected by suicide.”
